Mohamed Motala, Executive Director
Mohamed
Motala is a policy and research
professional dedicated to social and economic justice.
He has extensive experience in public policy formulation,
management, monitoring and evaluation supported by strong research and
writing skills. Having worked at a senior level in both the Public and
Development sector Mohamed has developed strong
conceptual, management and planning skills. He has organisational and
working experience ranging from community development to management of
national programmes, trade unions, government
departments, research and teaching.

Aislinn Delany, Research Director
After
working in the UK, Aislinn completed a Masters in Research Psychology
studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). She joined the Child and
Family Centre at UKZN as an intern research psychologist and later
relocated to Johannesburg to
join C A S E in 2001. In 2004 Aislinn was selected as a Clinton
Democracy Fellow and spent two months in the Unites States as part of a
residential programme on issues of democracy, social entrepreneurship
and citizen service. |

Debbie
Budlender, Research Specialist
Debbie’s background is in economics, sociology and computer programming.
She obtained degrees through UCT (BA Economics, MA Industrial Sociology)
and Unisa (BSc Computer Science and Mathematics), and has worked
predominantly in the fields of gender, labour and economic analysis,
sociology of law, education and budget analysis. While at C A S E she
has been seconded to the Women’s National Coalition, the Law, Race &
Gender Research Unit of UCT, and to Statistics South Africa as a
consultant on gender, labour and other issues. She is currently working
with the Centre for Actuarial Research. Debbie has been a member of C A
S E since 1988, and a board member since 2001. |

Zenobia Ismail, Project
Manager
Zenobia joined case in February 2006 as a Research Project Officer. Zenobia
is the co-author of a leading text on e-commerce in South Africa and has
written papers relating to privacy perceptions and concerns in South
Africa, the relationship between media content and boy image and the
ethics of controversial advertisements. She has experience in research
for both public and private sector clients. She has been a lecturer in
the School of Economic and Business Sciences at Wits University for five
years and prior to this she was a senior research executive at Research
Surveys. Zenobia joined case in February 2006 as a Research Project
Officer. |

Leilanie Williams, Researcher
Leilanie recently completed a Masters Degree in Community and Development at
the University of Stellenbosch. Her thesis describes the barriers to HIV
testing amongst youth males between the ages of 18 and 25 years.
Leilanie joined C A S E in January 2007 as a research intern and is
currently working as a researcher.

Lindiwe Madikizela, Project Officer
Lindiwe
studies B Soc Sc (University of
Durban Westville)
and she is currently studying part-time with the
University
of Witwatersrand, doing her last year in Masters of Public
Health (MPH) in the field of Health Measurements. She has worked
for the Reproductive Health Research Unit as a research project
coordinator. She coordinated a number of small and large scale
research projects on HIV/AIDS prevalence, youth behaviour, peer
education and VCT. Lindiwe has also worked for the Population
Council where she conducted research on HIV and TB service
delivery and integration in a number of government and NGO
health facilities in
Gauteng,
Mpumalanga and the North West provinces. Lindiwe presented her
work in posters and oral presentations in a number of national
and international conferences. She presented in the
International AIDS Conferences in Durban 2000,
Barcelona
in 2002 and Bangkok in 2004. Lindiwe also presented her work in
all the Reproductive Health Research Unit Priorities Conferences
since 2001 to 2004. She co-authored a number of publications in
peer reviewed journals and research reports. |

Yuri
Ramkissoon,
Project Officer
Yuri studied at the
University of KwaZulu-Natal and completed her Masters degree in Environmental
Science. Yuri also worked on a project for the St Lucia Wetland Authority,
collecting information for the development of tourism brochures and for the IUCN
at the 2003 World Parks Congress capturing and analysing conference
questionnaires. Yuri joined C A S E in July 2006 and developed a particular
interest in applied social research, particularly studies dealing with
marginalised groups such as children and women. She is currently working on
various projects, including the Role of Education and Training in the
Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in South Africa and a Gauteng
AIDS Impact Survey. She has previously worked on an Assessment of Child
Participation in South
African Households and an Evaluation of the Joint Enrichment Projects of the
National Youth Service Projects. |

Robin
Richards, Project Manager
Robin
Richards joined CASE in 2003. He obtained a Masters Degree at the University of
KwaZulu-Natal. He has worked for a variety of organisations in the public and
non-profit sectors, including the School of Development Studies (formerly the
Centre for Social and Development Studies (CSDS)) at the University of KwaZulu–Natal.;
the Institute of Multiparty Democracy and; the Fort Hare Institute of Social and
Economic Research, University of Fort Hare, East London (formerly the Institute
of Social and Economic Research, Rhodes, until the East London branch of the
Institute was incorporated into the University of Fort Hare). Robin has also
been seconded by the United Nations Programme (UNDP) to the United Nations
Mission to East Timor (UNAMET). Robin has co-edited a book of youth essays on
life in South Africa since the first democratic elections. As a senior
researcher at CASE, Robin has served as Project Manager on many studies since
joining CASE. His current interests include quality of life, poverty studies;
socio-economic surveys and project evaluations. In 2006 Robin was Track Chair of
a Session on Quality of Life in Cities at the Seventh International Conference
of Quality-of-Life Studies in Grahamstown. He also presented two papers at this
conference and in addition, presented a paper on quality of Life in Johannesburg
at the XVI World Conference of Sociology, 2006 in Durban. Robin is currently
registered for PhD studies at the University of the Free State under the Arid
Areas Programme.
