Mohamed Motala, Executive Director

Mohamed Motala is a  policy  and research   professional  dedicated to social and economic justice. He has extensive experience in public policy formulation, management, monitoring and evaluation supported by strong research and writing skills. Having worked at a senior level in both the Public and Development sector Mohamed has developed  strong conceptual,  management and planning skills. He has organisational and working experience ranging from community development to management of national programmes, trade unions, government.

 

Debbie Budlender, Research Specialist

Debbie’s background is in economics, sociology and computer programming. She obtained degrees through UCT (BA Economics, MA Industrial Sociology) and Unisa (BSc Computer Science and Mathematics), and has worked predominantly in the fields of gender, labour and economic analysis, sociology of law, education and budget analysis.  While at C A S E she has been seconded to the Women’s National Coalition, the Law, Race & Gender Research Unit of UCT, and to Statistics South Africa as a consultant on gender, labour and other issues.  She is currently working with the Centre for Actuarial Research. Debbie has been a member of C A S E since 1988, and a board member since 2001.

 

Michael Glencross,  Project Research Manager

Professor Michael Glencross , BSc, BSc(Hons), BEd, MPhil, DPhil, PGCE, joined C A S E in June  2008 as a Research Project Manager. He has been involved extensively in education, having taught mathematics and statistics at high school, college and university levels. He has also supervised over 40 postgraduate research students at honours, master’s and doctoral levels. Michael’s areas of interest and expertise are in the fields of mathematics education, statistics education, and research methodology and design. He has published widely in South African and international research journals.  He is an Emeritus Professor of the Walter Sisulu University for Technology & Science.

 

Mphahle Geoffrey Nkadimeng,  Project Research Manager

Mphahle BA (Sociology and Social Anthropology, University of Witwatersrand) BA Hours (Industrial and economic sociology, University of the Witwatersrand) MA (Industrial and economic sociology, University of the Witwatersrand).  joined C A S E in 2008 as a Research Projects Manager.  Areas of Specialisation: Policy Analysis and Research (including M&E and Impact Assessments in the area of: labour markets, poverty, youth development, organisational design and strategic planning, social dialogue, public policy and organisations and social movements.

 

Eginis Mudzingwa, Project Research Manager

Eginis Mudzingwa has recently joined C A S E as a Research Project  Officer.  She has a  Masters in Population Studies with an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Statistics.  She has worked as a statistician and  researcher previously and  has experience of survey related work.

 

Yuri Ramkissoon, Research Project Officer

Yuri Yuri studied at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and completed her Masters degree in Environmental Science. Yuri also worked on a project for the St Lucia Wetland Authority, collecting information for the development of tourism brochures and for the IUCN at the 2003 World Parks Congress capturing and analysing conference questionnaires. Yuri joined C A S E in July 2006 and developed a particular interest in applied social research, particularly studies dealing with marginalised groups such as children and women.  She is currently working on various projects, including the Role of Education and Training in the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour in South Africa and a Gauteng AIDS Impact Survey. She has previously worked on an Assessment of Child Participation in South African Households and an Evaluation of the Joint Enrichment Projects of the National Youth Service Projects.

 

Leilanie Williams, Researcher

Leilanie recently completed a Masters Degree in Community and Development at the University of Stellenbosch. Her thesis describes the barriers to HIV testing amongst youth males between the ages of 18 and 25 years.  Leilanie joined C A S E in January 2007 as a research intern and is currently working as a researcher.

 

  Mhlahlandlela Mabena, Researcher

Mhlahlandlela completed his studies on Migration at Wits in 2007. His research thesis was on Social Integration of Migrants in Johannesburg. He joined C A S E as a research intern in 2008 and developed keen interest in applied social research. He has worked in a variety of projects that includes the Poverty Pilot commissioned by Stats SA, Health Survey commissioned by the Centre for Health Policy and Health Economic Unit, Older Persons study commissioned by the Department of Social Development and remains interested in working with vulnerable groups.  Prior to joining C A S E, Mhlahlandlela worked in a number of research projects relating to migrants and their vulnerability in South Africa and saved on a number of migrant organisations in South Africa. He is now engaged as a researcher at C A S E.
